Child Q - Safeguarding children in school from disproportionate, harmful intervention
The education secretary, Nadhim Zahawi, has ordered a ordered a review of guidelines and policies around strip searches of children in schools in England following the case of Child Q.
Despite uncertainty about whether the case of Child Q met the criteria for a Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review, one was completed, the report can be found here
The case of child Q brings together a range of complex issues in safeguarding, not least that of parental involvement and partnership working to safeguard children, the adequacy of current procedures, and an examination of the factors that lead to disproportionate intervention where professionals exercise discretion and ‘professional judgement’.
